The night Martin Scorese’s “Departed” earned several nominations and a few Oscars, thunderous applause cut into the time for his speech, which is, per usual, one of the last of a long show that’s now running over.

Just a few short seconds later, the music prompts him to wrap it up. A consummate professional, “Marty” waves and says something like, “Well, that’s my time.”

I think, “If anyone deserves to have his full time — and not to be played off…”

The very next day, sitting on a crowded NYC subway, I see a couple of posters about Darfur aimed at raising funds to alleviate drought and starvation, featuring George Clooney and his father Nick.

“Now he knows how to deliver a good speech…”

“‘I Would Like to Thank’ is a great title,” I thought — and there are several possible ways to generate revenue.
